Maiden Sail one the PT Eleven Nesting Dinghy

The new to us dinghy Shane picked up in Port Townsend is a PT Eleven Nesting Dinghy. It sails, rows, and motors. Shane has been rowing it since we picked it up and today sailed it for the first time. Shane’s maiden voyage on the PT11. Apart from sailing the dinghy the kids and I had a fun day in town. Shane brought us into town using the old dinghy. We unloaded at one of the city docks and were surprised by a sea otter! At first we thought it was a sick river otter. It wasn’t moving much and wasn’t frightened off by our approach. We assumed it couldn'[...]

Boat Life Realities in the Pacific Northwest

Of course it COULD have been colder, and it did get colder as the winter went on in Port Townsend. Boat life comes with certain chores that, just like in a house, must be done regardless of wether or not you're in the Bahamas, or in the Pacific Northwest in the winter. Here's a quick glimpse of our weekly routine when we were in Point Hudson Marina in Port Townsend over the winter. We're a family of four that are moving onto our boat. It's been a long process, but we're in the final stretch! At Port Townsend we have liveaboard privileges, which was a big he[...]

Moving to Port Townsend for the Winter!

We found a little friend while moving our family sailboat from Bellingham to Port Townsend through the Puget Sound. It was further away than the camera made it seem, which is why we weren't sure if it was a log or a seal??… In this video I explain why Port Townsend was our "home" port for the winter and what we did there for the first couple of months. On the way to Port Townsend we stopover at James Island, which you can see a bit of in the video too![...]

Port Townsend Top 10 Attractions for Cruisers

Port Townsend

Winter moorage at Point Hudson Marina gave us six months to explore Port Townsend, Washington and its surroundings. Below you'll find our favorite places to see and activities to do for Pacific Northwest cruisers. We are a family of four who are spending the year aboard our new to us, 41 ft sailboat. We're exploring the Puget Sound as my husband circumnavigates the 300+ named islands and rocks of the area. Full moon rise over Whidbey Island, viewed from the beach at Point Hudson RV Park and Marina. #1View a moon rise, explore the shore during low tide,[...]

Day in the Life of our Liveaboard Family Celebrating Christmas

We're a family of four on a sailboat living aboard while doing homeschool and working. While I'm working on a video of how we bought the boat while on vacation, I'm sharing a real time video of getting into the Christmas spirit here onboard.

Don’t rock the boat, baby 😘

“Recents” from February - it was a busy one! Kelly is in a drama production here on island. The kids have been climbing (and Shane). Shane has been sailing, paddling, sauna-ing, and working on the boat (and working). We’ve made a lot of local friends and new boat buddies! Homeschool was mainly done off the boat this month with a lot of time exploring our out of this world surroundings.

Grammy and Grampy came to visit. Friday Harbor is a favorite boating destination for them, but their first time staying with us!

The family traveled to the mainland for a boat part once and bundled it with a Trader Joe’s stop and to see Ant Man (we loved it).

It sounds like March is going to live up to its name and we’re ready for it.

Another adventure on the island! It's so beautiful here.

Winter is the time to be here — ferries, hotels, and rental cars are more affordable. Plus, there’s a quarter of the people.

If you can be patient with ferry cancellations/changes, odd restaurant hours, some windy bits, a little rain here and there (this is the sunshine belt though), the odd snow storm — then winter is 👌 😋

You know it gets windy there with the gnarled trees and grass like that 😋

The boys and I tried to hike around here last June when we anchored in Griffin Bay. I had to call Shane to pick us up early in the dinghy because my eyes were too swollen and itchy to keep going. Oh well! We had a mostly dry hike this time and the views were beautiful. Especially on the west side overlooking Victoria.
