Family Winter Update

Happy 2023! We spent our second New Year's Eve on the boat, this time in Friday Harbor. Last year we were absolutely spoiled with midnight fireworks viewing off of our stern in Port Townsend. This year was a much quieter celebration. A cozy celebration onboard Coco Mar. We've been in Friday Harbor for three months now! That's three months on the dock with plenty of time spent on the mainland with family. Disney World Family Vacation | Spending Christmas at the Magic Kingdom

My parents gifted all of us Disney World for Christmas - for our kids, this was a HUGE surprise. In this video we're at Epcot for Christmas Eve and Magic Kingdom for Christmas. We stayed at the Wilderness Loge got to the parks early, returning for a quick break at night, then went back to the parks until they closed. The dining experiences were incredible! We loved the Be Our Guest Restaurant (where we had Christmas dinner) and Coral Reef Restaurant was so fun too (there for Christmas Eve dinner).[...]

They did WHAT?! The Epic Disney World Christmas Surprise.

Our Christmas plans were revealed after a year of planning! The stress of coordinating our movements around a secret almost killed me! We were all so excited for the kids to finally find out. Grammy and Grampy reveal to the grandkids they are going to Disney World for Christmas. This isn't the first surprise the kids have been lucky to receive from them. Don’t rock the boat, baby 😘 “Recents” from February - it was a busy one! Kelly is in a drama production here on island. The kids have been climbing (and Shane). Shane has been sailing, paddling, sauna-ing, and working on the boat (and working). We’ve made a lot of local friends and new boat buddies! Homeschool was mainly done off the boat this month with a lot of time exploring our out of this world surroundings. Grammy and Grampy came to visit. Friday Harbor is a favorite boating destination for them, but their first time staying with us! The family traveled to the mainland for a boat part once and bundled it with a Trader Joe’s stop and to see Ant Man (we loved it). It sounds like March is going to live up to its name and we’re ready for it.

Another adventure on the island! It's so beautiful here. Winter is the time to be here — ferries, hotels, and rental cars are more affordable. Plus, there’s a quarter of the people. If you can be patient with ferry cancellations/changes, odd restaurant hours, some windy bits, a little rain here and there (this is the sunshine belt though), the odd snow storm — then winter is 👌 😋

You know it gets windy there with the gnarled trees and grass like that 😋 The boys and I tried to hike around here last June when we anchored in Griffin Bay. I had to call Shane to pick us up early in the dinghy because my eyes were too swollen and itchy to keep going. Oh well! We had a mostly dry hike this time and the views were beautiful. Especially on the west side overlooking Victoria.
